What the Image Compressor Can Do
- An exact target size — ask for 100 KB, 500 KB, 1 MB or your own number, and the quality is dialled in automatically to hit it
- Compression you can steer — or simply pick a level yourself and see the result immediately on the card
- The resolution stays — compression works on the file, not the picture — the photo keeps its full width and height
- No limits at all — no daily quota, no cap on the number of files, no watermark — your device does the work

How to Shrink a Photo Without Ruining It
Most photos are far heavier than they need to be. A modern phone camera produces files of four to twelve megabytes, while an email attachment, an upload form, a government portal or a marketplace listing typically wants something under a megabyte — and often under a hundred kilobytes. There are two honest ways to get there. The first is to lower the JPEG quality: the picture keeps its full resolution, but fine detail is approximated more aggressively. Down to about 80% this is genuinely invisible; between 60% and 80% it shows only on flat gradients and sharp text; below 60% the blocks become obvious. The second is to reduce the resolution, which is what the resizer is for — if a photo will only ever be seen on a screen, 1920 pixels wide is plenty and the file shrinks dramatically. This tool takes the first route, and when you set an exact target size it searches for the highest quality that still fits: seven passes of binary search, done in your browser in a fraction of a second. Nothing is uploaded, so a folder of holiday photos never leaves your laptop.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it really free?
Yes — with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many files you process at once. Converting costs us nothing because your browser does the work, so there is nothing to charge for.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. Everything runs inside your browser: the file is read, converted and downloaded on your own device, and never leaves it. That also means there are no queues, no daily limits and no waiting for an upload.
How do I compress a photo to exactly 100 KB?
Choose the “100 KB” chip, or enter your own number in the target size field. The compression level is then picked automatically — the highest quality that still fits the limit you asked for.
Will the photo lose quality?
Compression always trades some detail for size, but down to about 80% the difference is invisible at normal viewing size. The resolution never changes, so the picture stays just as large.
Can I compress PNG files too?
Yes. For flat graphics PNG is kept lossless; for photographs saved as PNG, converting them to JPG in the same pass gives by far the biggest saving.
Is there a limit on how many photos I can compress?
No. Add as many as you like — they are processed one by one on your own device, so there is nothing to queue and nothing to pay for.
