Phase tricks and EQ can only push frequencies down, which is why a classic karaoke filter leaves a hollow backing track. AI source separation works differently: the model listens to the whole mix and rebuilds each instrument as its own audio stream, so the drums keep their transients and the bass keeps its weight. Results still depend on the source — a dense, heavily compressed master separates less cleanly than a spacious arrangement, and a quiet instrument buried in the mix can bleed into the “other” stem. Nothing is invented: the stem splitter takes an existing recording apart, it never writes new music.
